Marionette Puppet Show
Showings at 11am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm
The Waldorf School of Atlanta is happy to announce that the much loved "Journey Cake, Ho" puppet show will return for the 2013 Holiday Fair. This production is based on the 1953 book by Ruth Sawyer. In the story, times are hard and Johnny works for the old couple on the farm. The journey cake jumps right out of Johnny's knapsack while he is making his way into the world on his own. The journey cake leads him on a merry chase that results in a farm yard full of animals and the family all together again. As the puppeteers move the marionettes, their voices blend with the storyteller and the guitar and harmonica accompaniment as they sing original music composed for this show. The show is presented by the WSA Early Childhood section of the school.
The three human characters in the show – Grumble, Merry and Johnny are marionettes made of a wooden skeletal base, wrapped in wool and then felted. The farm animals, a cow, pig, chickens, sheep and a donkey were also made by felting wool. All the puppets were made as a group effort by the kindergarten faculty.
